Indie Rock Genre
Indie rock is a music genre that originated in the United States and United Kingdom during the 1980s. This music genre is very diverse because it has several sub genres. Some of its sub genres are the following: Math rock, lo-fi, dream pop, space rock, post rock, indie pop, emo, sadcore, etc.
Originally these sub genres were used for description of record labels. The music produced became associated with the term and was used initially used with alternative rock. In the middle 1980s the term called "Indie" had started to be used to describe music that was produced on post punk labels. An example of an indie band is called The Redwalls. The Indie Rock Festival of Grand Haven, Michigan is a very popular event dedicated to this music genre. The event offers two days full of indie bands, food and beer stands.
The Indie rock scene in the United States was known to be prefigured by College Rock, which dominated college radio playlists. Several bands rejected the synthpop of the 1980s. One of the outgrowth of punk was called Noise rock, which was focused loud distorted electric guitars and powerful drums. The development of the 1990s brought changes to the scene of alternative rock. Several bands in the United Kingdom became emerged into the mainstream and abandoned the regional small scale and political elements of the indie scene in the 1980s. This genre term became associated with the genres and bands that were dedicated and remained to their independent status. By the end of the 1990s this genre developed several sub genres and related styles.
